Content Description:
\nThis course is intended to introduce the students to the Art of Photography. The basic techniques of using a camera, the history of photography, and developing black and white photographs will be covered the first nine weeks. It is best if each student brings their OWN 35mm film SLR camera to use. The second nine weeks will cover digital photography and image manipulation. It is BEST if each student brings their OWN digital camera.<\/span><\/p>\n

Content Description:<\/p>\n

Any student is eligible to be a member of mixed chorus which is the basic performing group for vocal music. An ability to match pitch and read music is recommended. This group performs a variety of styles, types, and periods of vocal literature and participates in the following events: 1.) Attendance required for assessment at four scheduled concerts per school year. 2.) Required attendance for assessment at State Large Group Music Festival. Students who are members of the mixed chorus also are expected to attend scheduled voice lessons weekly and extra rehearsals that may be scheduled as needed. Also available to interested members are all-state auditions, groups which sing the National Anthem at football and basketball games (group members selected based on auditions), vocal festivals, swing\/jazz choir (members selected by audition), commencement singers, state solo\/ensemble music festival entries and special community performances.<\/p>\n

Objectives: 1.) To be able to sing various types, styles and periods of literature. 2.) To be a part of a successful and rewarding overall group effort. 3.) To develop and improve personal vocal skills. 4.) To learn proper voice techniques and care of the vocal instrument. 5.) To develop an understanding of and appreciation for many different types and styles of music. 6.) To be able to appreciate music as an art form that is used and exhibited every day of our lives.<\/p>\n

Content Description:<\/p>\n

MUTH will introduce harmony in music beginning with the construction of major and minor scales, the Circle of Fifths, intervals, and triad and Dominant 7th chord construction. This will be supplemented by ear training, a music composition project, and constant connection to historically relevant repertoire.<\/p>\n

Objectives: By the end of the course, students will read and notate music, discern intervals, scales, and modes, analyze chords and scales, and connect repertoire to the world around them. The class will cover one unit from the text each week, supplemented by musictheory.net assignments and a term music composition project. Students will be tested at the end of each unit both wirtten and aural. Daily work will be given, all assignments and tests are cumulative as knowledge carries from one concept to the next.<\/p>\n

\nContent Description:
\nInstrumental music is designed to offer instruction and experience through a number of large and small group performances including concert band, marching band, jazz band, pep band, ensembles, solos, and lessons. Students will study musical concepts such as rhythm, articulation, tone, phrasing, intonation, balance and blend, dynamics, and terminology. Students will also learn to apply basic concepts of music theory and field\/parade marching fundaments. The band will study literature representing various historical time periods including the pre-baroque, baroque, classical, romantic, and contemporary.<\/span><\/p>\n

Instrumental music is a performance -oriented class. Performances which are scheduled outside of the school day are required and are a part of the instrumental music grade. All performances are scheduled on the school calendar.<\/span><\/p>\n
