The South Central Calhoun Board of Education recently approved the addition of a New program to the District. This program called the SCC HSAP (South Central Calhoun Homeschool Assistance Program) was establsihed to provide support and resources for families in the district that wish to collaborate with the public school to educate children.
The new program offers the following opportunities for homeschooling families.
- Access to a state of Iowa licensed certified supervising teacher
- Opportunity to dual enroll and participate in the following (Art, Music (band/choir, P.E., FFA, All extra curricular activities/sports etc…)
- Establishment of educational plan and access to record keeping ideas
- Post-Secondary (PSEO) educational enrollment options (DMACC, Iowa Central etc…) Many of these options can be for dual credit (i.e. towards high school diploma and college credit).
- Utilization of and potential purchase of curriculum resources.
- Technology availability. The SCCHSAP utilizes technology during Post Secondary Education classes and provides dedicated 1:1 devices to all SCC HSAP students for academic use at home and during PSEO enrichment classes. All SCCHSAP curricular resources and 1:1 devices can be checked out for the school year and returned to the district accordingly upon the completion of classes.
- Professional Services from the South Central Calhoun Community School District, Seasons Center (Social Emotional counseling services) are available to SCC HSAP students upon request
- Opportunity to participate in district assessments ( ISASP etc…)
- Prairie Lakes Area Education Agency (PLAEA) curriculum resource library and online educational resources are available as well as hearing and vision screening services
