Content Description:
Spanish 1 is an introduction to the Spanish Language. Each unit of study stresses practice in the basic linguistic skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Understanding the elements of Hispanic culture is an integral part of the intent of this course.
Objectives:
1.) To develop new habits of listening and imitating. 2.) To develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in Spanish. 3.) To acquire sufficient understanding of sentence structure and vocabulary to allow self-expression in Spanish in the classroom setting. 4.) To gain a general knowledge of Hispanic culture.

SUBJECT: SPANISH II
CREDIT: Two Credits

PREREQUISITE: SPANISH 1
Content Description:
Spanish 2 is designed to be a continuation of Spanish 1. Assignments and projects are aimed at increasing each student’s ability in the skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing Spanish. Appreciation of the Hispanic culture remains an important goal of this course.
Objectives:
1.) To develop a higher level of proficiency of listening and imitating. 2.) To develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills that would allow the student to function in typical cultural situations in Spanish. 3.) To develop a sufficient understanding of sentence structure and vocabulary to allow self-expression within the classroom and with other speakers of Spanish. 4.) To gain an appreciation of Hispanic culture in general and build a special knowledge of Mexican culture.

SUBJECT: SPANISH III
CREDIT: Two Credits
COURSE LENGTH: Full Year
GRADE LEVEL: 11, 12
PREREQUISITE: SPANISH I and SPANISH III
Content Description:
Spanish III: Students will continue to study vocabulary and verb tenses appropriate to conversation, reading, and writing at this level. Conversational ability will be a major area of focus during in-class activities. In addition, students will be expected to read short books in Spanish as well as write multi-paragraph papers. Students will also study geography, history, and cultures of Spanish-speaking countries. 

SUBJECT: SPANISH IV

CREDIT: Two Credits

COURSE LENGTH: Full Year

GRADE LEVEL: 12

PREREQUISITE: Spanish III

Content Description:

A passing grade in Spanish III is a prerequisite. The objectives of this course are to improve proficiency and fluency in conversation, reading, and writing. Students will study Spanish literature, government, history, and art. Students will read and converse about short novels in Spanish as well as write papers in the target language. Evaluation will be based on class participation, daily work, projects, and tests.
