NOTE REGARDING COLLEGE CREDIT COURSES: High school students taking college coursework under a concurrent enrollment agreement will be required to meet two criteria to stay in good academic standing with the college(s). 1) Must earn a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher and 2) must satisfactorily complete 67% of credits attempted. Content Description:
This course will be an introduction to the use and care of basic woodworking tools and machines, as well as the various wood materials. Instruction will include problems involving the safe operation of the tools and machines, improving skills in the proper use of tools and machines, designing and planning a project, ways to purchase the various wood products, and the various processes used in the construction of a project. The primary emphasis of Beginning Woods will be the construction of basic woodworking projects, as well as basic cabinet and furniture construction processes. Other considerations of the class include safety, various finishing processes, and quality control. Each student will be required to choose at least one project for the class. There will be a charge for the materials used.

Content Description:
This course will be a continuation of the Beginning Woods class. The course will begin with a review of the basic woodworking tools and machines, woodworking processes, designing and planning a project, and safety practices. Students will select an advanced cabinet or furniture construction project(s) to completer during the course of the term. The student’s experience and skill level should be reflected in the completed project. A continuation of the study of advanced woodworking processes and techniques will also apply. Other considerations will include various wood finishing processes, quality control, and a strong emphasis on shop safety. Each student will be required to choose a project for the class. There will be a charge for materials used.
